My Favorite Things To Do In Baltimore City

Published by Ryan Cooley

As someone who has been a resident in Maryland for many years, I can definitely say that living right by Baltimore City is a blessing. There are a ton of things to do and see here: historical sites, fascinating museums (including one that is centered around the baseball legend Babe Ruth), and even cruising around the Inner Harbor. Many of these activities are suitable for family-friendly fun and don’t even break the bank.

Allow me to share some of my favorite things to do with my family when we visit Baltimore City.

Watch The Baltimore Orioles Play

As an avid baseball fan, one of my favorite springtime activities is to go watch “The O’s” play in their home stadium of Oriole Park at Camden Yards. There is nothing like watching a baseball game live and in person. I get to enjoy exciting winning moments, feel the enthusiasm of the people around me, and even enjoy better-than-average stadium food (e.g., acai bowls and handmade jumbo lump crab cake). Going to games is affordable too. The lowest membership level (Orange) includes 13 home games for as low as $16/person/game. Check out the game schedule at https://www.mlb.com/orioles.

Visit The Walters Art Museum

This museum is a great place to take my family for a variety of different reasons. First of all, admission is always free. Secondly, I get to see all kinds of beautiful artifacts and art pieces from all over the world in my own backyard. Lastly, it’s suitable for people of all ages. The museum’s Family Art Center allows families with young children to enjoy interactive play with art. Please note that the museum is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, and when they are open, they offer daily tours. More information about the museum can be found at https://thewalters.org/.

Spend Time At The 32nd Street Farmers Market

At the 32nd Street Farmers Market, I get to see the local community of Baltimore City come out of the woodworks. I often see vendors selling fresh local produce, baked goods, prepared foods, cut flowers, and a variety of natural and health-related products. My family and I like coming here for Saturday morning strolls to taste new and delicious foods and make new friends by chatting it up with the vendors and anyone else we come across. This farmers market is held all year long, every Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to noon. For more information on the history of the 32nd Street Farmers Market, visit https://www.32ndstreetmarket.org/.

Explore The National Aquarium

In my opinion, one of the hidden treasures of Baltimore City is the National Aquarium. Every time I visit, I get to see the many fish, sharks, sea jellies, birds, and marine mammals who call this place their home. This is always a great place for families to come and experience the wonders of the ocean. One insider tip: the aquarium even offers admission discounts on Fridays. Go to their website at https://www.aqua.org/ for more visitor and exhibit information.

Outdoor Movie Festivals In Little Italy

From July to September, Little Italy and several other Baltimore neighborhoods offer free outdoor movie festivals. Anyone can come, set their lawn chair down, and enjoy watching the big screen under the stars. This is the perfect way to enjoy relaxing summer evenings while having fun with my family. What About You?

Life is too short to sit around and do nothing. It is all about having fun and savoring every moment. In addition, all of the activities listed above are free or low-cost, proving that spending time with my family in Baltimore City fits quite well into our household budget.
